1940s Heywood-Wakefield Birch Corner Cabinet

$875.00
Sold Out

Birch corner cabinet featuring bold circular handles, manufactured between 1940 and 1944 by Heywood-Wakefield.

In the 1930s, Heywood-Wakefield enlisted designer Gilbert Rohde, a leading advocate of the Art Deco movement. Before leaving in 1932 to spearhead Herman Miller, Rohde used the colonial-style furniture with a modern Art Deco touch.

In 1936, the company debuted its “Streamline Modern” furniture collection, a style that would define its identity for the next three decades. Dedicated to embracing this new aesthetic, Heywood-Wakefield collaborated with an array of like-minded designers, including Alfons Bach, W. Joseph Carr, Leo Jiranek, and Count Alexis de Sakhnoffsky.

There are no major areas of wear and tear, though there are dents to the top arch sections.

H: 65in, W: 24in, D: 14.5in
