Pratfall Easy Chair by Philippe Starck for Driade, 1983
The Pratfall easy chair is a universal design icon that marked the beginning of the successful collaboration between Philippe Starck and Driade.
Philippe Starck was creating the private apartments of the Palais de L'Élysée for François Mitterrand, President of the French Republic. For the president's private office, Starck imagined a place geared towards meditation and for which he created a comfortable yet minimalistic 3-leg seat, which became the Pratfall armchair, produced by Driade from 1985 to 2003.
Black painted tubular steel structure and curved plywood mahogany finished shell. Polyurethane foams padded seat with black leather fixed cover.
A few minor scratches and wear on the plywood (see pictures).
